Beginning with RED version 3.02, you can use the Library Browser in a special Template mode. Template mode allows you tocreate effects directly in the Library Browser. |
In addition to reflection maps and textures, both RED and Graffiti allow you to apply bump maps to to 3D text and shapes. |
RED and Graffiti let you animate the splines that make up each character in your text. Let’s start by creating some text... |
We all know how boring business graphics can be to create (and to watch). In the old days, Boris FX had a tag line: "In Video Effects There Is Boring and There Is Boris." The goal of the 3D Chart generator is to live up to this old motto... |
The "Animating EPS Files in RED tutorial detailed animating an Adobe Illustrator EPS file using RED's vector animation tools. It was clearly something that a lot of users wanted to know, as the response was overwhelming. A number of questions came up more than once, so lets address them. |
Graffiti and RED's Generator tab lets you generate random text or numbers. You can lock each letter or number in position regardless of changes made to neighboring characters... |
Native vector text, a library of spline primitive shapes, powerful control over border and fill, and true vector masks are just a very few of the elements that make Red the most extensive vector animation application ever offered. |
RED's vector paint is very fast and easy to use, even though it offers a wide variety of features not found in other vector paint tools. These include fill, multiple strokes, and a much wider range of animatable parameters, such as color, brush size and opacity. |
Adding the advanced 3D Particle System filter to RED's vector paint offers titling possibilities you never imagined you'd have in your NLE. It's fast and it's easy....but doesn't look like it. |
Among RED and Graffiti's Overshoot features is an easy way to add "bounce" to your titles. |
Create a very frequently requested effect, tracking a Mosaic filter over someone's face. This effect can be achived using Boris RED thanks to Motion Tracking technology. |
The same improvements to Motion Tracker have been added to the Motion Stabilizer filter. Combined with Red's vector paint and exceptionally powerful masking, you can salvage some of the worst footage imaginable...which we just happened to have handy for this tutorial. |
Four trackers in one filter mean even more possibilities. Even better news? It's just as easy to use as the other motion filters. |

Even if you haven’t mastered 3D modeling, you can still add 3D impact to your projects. BLUE is an ideal solution for 3D newbies since it lets you tap into a collection of shareware models in the .3ds and .obj formats. When you import 3D models individual geometry groups, texture maps and bump maps are preserved. Once imported, you can animate with drag-and-drop simplicity and customize the models with innovative pixel shaders. This tutorial uses a 3D model of a taxi that is available for download from www.PlanIT3D.com. |

The Motion Stabilizer filter let's you stabilize shaky video. Motion trackers analyze one or more specified regions of motion then adjust the track's position to compensate. Playback appears smooth because the track moves incrementally to offset the unwanted motion. You can also stabilize just a portion of a track to correct isolated camera bumps. |
BORIS FX offers this incredibly useful filter. It's easy to use and very powerful. |

What is the oldest text animation effect in film history? You guessed right. It is the opening or closing credit roll. Traditionally a long page of text is rolled from the bottom of the screen revealing line after line. In the early days of cinematography a paper print was physically rolled before the film camera to produce this effect. Hence the name: Credit Roll. |

| Continuum Complete AVX Tutorials |
In this tutorial, we will use BCC AVX 5 in Avid Media Composer to give you an overview of the BCC Glow, BCC Colorize Glow, and BCC Glow Alpha Edges filters. |
The BCC Optical Stabilizer filter stabilizes shaky footage, using optical flow technology. Unlike many stabilizing tools, the BCC Optical Stabilizer doesn't require you to define a tracking point. In addition, the Optical Stabilizer can take panning, zooming and rotation into account during the analysis. |
This tutorial introduces the Corner Pin filter in BCC AVX. Several of the Corner Pin Tracker's powerful features are combined with other BCC AVX filters to create a realistic composite. This compositing primer places emphasis on workflow and techniques. |
In this tutorial, you will use the BCC Motion Key filter to successfully remove a moving foreground object from a clip. In this particular case, the moving object that you want to remove is the silver car. |
The Corner Pin filter is similar to the integrated motion tracker except that four trackers follow four separate points. You assign media whose corners follow the four trackers, distorting as necessary. You can complete this tutorial using your own media or download the QuickTime movies that we used. |
Continuum Complete and Continuum Complete AVX include native filters to create precise keys. This tutorial combines multiple filters to solve some complex (but common) keying issues. Although the tutorial uses four filters, BCC Chroma Key, BCC Matte Choker, BCC Color Balance and BCC Light Wrap, you can quickly create accurate keys. This is true even with difficult-to-key DV footage. |
The Apply to Title option is one of the most compelling integration features of BCC AVX. Applying an effect to an Avid Title or Matte Key without affecting the background video is as simple as clicking a single button. You can also apply multiple filters to the same title. |

What good is a snow effect if snow does not stick to horizontal surfaces in the shot? The BCC Snow filter can do that and provide many other mesmerizing looks for your winterly scenes. BCC Snow is part of just about every Boris product. Whether you are using Continuum Complete or Graffiti or RED or FX, BCC Snow is available in the Generator section of the package. It works especially well with the text captions where snow accumulates on top of the letters creating a natural outdoor look. |
Here are four basic processes, using a combination of filters from the BCC 5 FxPlug package, that when applied to video source clips can generate the illusion that these clips originated on film and not tape. |
Save money on pre-made video backgrounds! Quickly design and animate your own unique video backgrounds by combining BCC 5 FxPlug's new Prism filter with your favorite Apple Final Cut Pro Generator.. |
In this exercise, we'll use Apple Final Cut Pro to generate an HD format show opener for a news program, such as we might see on the Larry King show, that incorporates a world map in the background, which has been treated with the BCC LED filter to appear as though it was made out of LED (light emitting diode) bulbs. |
To continue the effect, we'll take the same map image and add a particle filter to make the lights appear as though they are being sprayed onto the wall, creating the blinking and glowing LED map over time. |
So now that we have in place our wall of blinking lights as the backdrop, we'll add the show opener text. |
Continuum Complete 3.0.2 introduced significant improvements to the integrated Motion Tracker. This tutorial uses the Witness Protection filter in Final Cut Pro to obscure an ad on a trolley. The clip was provided courtesy of www.ArtBeats.com. However, you can use any clip that you like for this tutorial. |

3D Objects is a new feature of BCC 6. It's built around a concept of using vector text or splines to generate real 3D objects right in After Effects composition by the means of extrusion or creating thickness for otherwise flat layer or shape. Such extrusion would typically require a shape of it's own, unless you really want it to be straight with sharp angles. |
Use BCC Rays Cartoon in Adobe After Effects to generate a volumetric lighting effect on an animated text element. The BCC Rays Carton filter will also give the text the appearance of being made of neon lights. |
The BCC Glitter filter is OpenGL hardware-accellerated and can be used to generate glittering sparkles of pretty much any size. There are parameters in the filter UI to control the brightness, scale and color of the glitters and also the number of rays that each glitter has. |
There are several BCC filters that were designed to produce the glow effect that seems to be popular for sports broadcast and commercial spots. This tutorial we will be using the After Effects version of BCC within Adobe CS3 package. The same BCC Glow filters are available for Avid and FCP with a similar workflow. |
The BCC Film Process plug-in can help “filmize” digital video by deepening the color response range of the digital image to emulate film’s dynamic color range. It can also be used to color grade and mimic an variety of analog lens filters (e.g. Cokin, Tiffen, Hoya), optical processes, and special effects. |
The problem with interlaced images shown on a non-NTSC display is there can be errors when the two fields are synthesized into one frame. These errors are usually referred to as "the jaggies", “combing” or “teeth”, and are apparent in the moving parts of the image. |
BCC Match Grain takes a snapshot of film-to-video ("telecined") media and generates a grain signature which can be used as a matching grain sample for a destination clip containing little or no grain. |
